Everything about List Of Arizona Counties totally explained

This is a list of counties in Arizona. There are 15 counties in the U.S. state of Arizona. There is also one defunct county: Pah-Ute County was formed in 1865 from Mohave County and returned in 1871. Four counties (Mohave, Pima, Yavapai and Yuma) were created in 1864 following the organization of the Arizona Territory in 1862. All but La Paz County were created by the time Arizona was granted statehood in 1912. The names of many of the counties pay tribute to the state's Native American heritage. Fully ten of the fifteen counties are named after various native groups that are resident in parts of what is now Arizona. Another four counties are named after physical geographic features, with the final county being named after one of the state's early pioneers.
The FIPS county code is the five-digit Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) code which uniquely identifies counties and county equivalents in the United States. The three-digit number is unique to each individual county within a state, but to be unique within the entire United States, it must be prefixed by the state code. This means that, for example, while Apache County, Arizona is 001, Belknap County, New Hampshire and Alachua County, Florida are also 001. To uniquely identify Apache County, Arizona, one must use the state code of 04 plus the county code of 001; therefore, the unique nationwide identifier for Apache County, Arizona is 04001. The links in the column FIPS County Code are to the Census Bureau Info page for that county.
